St. George Indian Orthodox Church, Brisbane, from its establishment in 2007, has been giving importance for social well-being by providing benevolent activities. SGIOC Charity Committee was established in 2014 to enhance the charity activities of the Parish. The charity committee has been facilitating financial assistance to the needy as per the guidelines of the General Body of the parish.
SGIOC Charity Committee have given AUD 2750 in total to several needy for various reasons and this fund is raised from among the generous members of the Church through their birthday &wedding anniversary offerings and some general donations.
Adopt a family: Last year, SGIOC Charity had organised an “ADOPT A FAMILY” program during the Christmas period. We had collected around 10 boxes of non-perishable food items, toys, household items etc. and had given these items to Frontier Services, which is a charity agency of Uniting Church.
Spirit of Giving: This year, we are tying up with Food Bank, which is the largest food relief organisation in Australia to do our Christmas Hampers.
Red 25: SGIOC Charity team and Youth movement are jointly organising a Blood Donation Drive every month with Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
